PMC presents T Bone Burnett with AML2 monitors during GRAMMY Week

In celebration of T Bone Burnett’s award from the Producers & Engineers Wing of The Recording Academy in Los Angeles last week, Peter Thomas, founder of PMC, presented a pair of AML2 monitors to the 12-time GRAMMY winning producer.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Producers & Engineers Wing, a special event was held at the Village recording studios in Los Angeles entitled Shaken Rattled and Rolled. Video messages of congratulation were received from Elton John and Leon Russell, who served as honourary event co-chairs in recognition of the work Burnett did on their recent album, The Union, which was mixed using PMC’s AML2 monitors.

T Bone and his long time engineer, Mike Piersante, originally heard a prototype pair of AML2s at the Village and were so taken with their performance, they refused to hand them back until the mixing work had been completed. A long time champion of excellence in sound quality, T Bone used his acceptance speech to make the comment that “digital technology has done as much damage to the sound and recording art of music as it has done to the economics of its distribution.

Peter Thomas has previously engaged Burnett and Piersante in discussions about sound quality and how the sound of commercial releases is often degraded after leaving the studio and appearing on CD.

Having presented the AML2s to Burnett, Peter said, “It was a great honour to learn that a producer of T Bone’s standing selected our speakers to mix such an important album as The Union. At PMC we have always sought the best possible sound quality and that has been the driving force behind our product development process ever since I founded the company 20 years ago. It was gratifying to hear T Bone saying how digital sound has gone off the rails and I look forward to working with him and other members of the Producers & Engineers Wing in order to pursue a better quality of recorded music.”
